Culture, so far
Where we're going

One game out. More coming.

We'd rather do one culture properly than four of them badly. Here's the order.

Now
One game out

Karibu Play is live on Android and iOS, and we add to it every week.

Next
More cultures

We work with people from each culture, so the games feel local there rather than translated. That's how we scale.

Then
New games

Not more inside Karibu Play. A different game, made the same way.

How that works

The same game, written again

Taking a game somewhere new isn't a rebuild. It's three steps, and we're set up to repeat them.

01
You pick your place

Karibu Play asks where you're playing from, and the game changes to match. Same app, different words.

02
Someone from there writes it

We partner with a writer who actually lives the culture. The names, the places, the arguments — theirs, not translated from ours.

03
The game itself doesn't change

Same rules, same feel, same reason it's fun. Only what's inside it changes, which is why the second culture costs a fraction of the first.

What we make

Small games, made to travel

We make simple games. Easy to start, easy to understand, nothing to learn first.

Some are played in a group — a party, a room, people together. Some are quick plays on your own.

All of them are made to feel local wherever they're played.

Why we work this way

We wanted to build something huge. We built something small instead, and it's out.

01
Culture-first

Culture isn't one thing, and it isn't one country. We don't make a single game for everyone. We make games that feel local wherever they're played, and that means writing them for one culture at a time.

02
Simplicity by choice

We prefer simple. A good idea beats expensive art, and a game you can start in ten seconds beats one you have to learn. That's a preference, not a ceiling.

03
Meant to be played out loud

Half of what we make only works with people in the room. Shouting over each other, arguing about whether that counts. That's the point.

What culture-specific looks like

ELIUD KIPCHOGE

  • MUSEUM HILL
  • HOUSE OF MANJI
  • TUSKER CIDER
  • EMBAKASI

Twenty seconds to get your team to the word without saying it. Every one of these only lands if you grew up around here, which is the whole idea. Somewhere else, it would be a different list.

Karibu Play

A party and trivia app, free on Android and iOS. It works, people play it, and it took two of us. It has its own home on the internet, so we'll send you there.

Who we are

The two of us

We write the questions, argue about which ones are too easy, and build everything around them. Independent, so the call on what gets made is ours.

Made to feel local, wherever you're playing.

How we got here

We started with something bigger

A large mobile RPG with proper graphics. We spent years learning the tools, did the maths, and stopped. Everything we've shipped since exists because we made that call.

Say hello

Work with us. Karibu!

Press, someone who backs studios early, or someone who just wants to argue about which questions are too easy. We read everything that comes in.
